Great Success at Blackpool Junior Festival

The Blackpool Junior Dance Festival has been running since 1947 with young dancers from all over the World visiting Blackpool to compete. The Festival, traditionally held in the magnificent Blackpool Tower Ballroom, celebrated it’s 50th birthday in 2007 and incorporates the British Junior Open Championships. In 2010 the Festival moved to the Winter Gardens, Empress Ballroom.  As tradition states, the Festival always commences on Easter Monday finishing seven days later on the Sunday. There are two age groups of children – Juveniles (6 to under 12 years) and Juniors (12 to under 16 years). There are three branches of dancing – Latin American, Ballroom and Sequence. Over the seven days there are 29 competitions, four Team Matches and three Formation Competitions. In 2013 there were over 33 countries represented at the Festival with over 400 couples,  9 Sequence Formation Teams and 66 Latin/Ballroom Formation Team’s entered in the various events.

This year, Sandersons took over 40 dancers to the festival to compete at this prestigious event. Over the years, Sandersons have claimed many British Championship titles at this festival dating back to 1993 when Gemma Bynert and Stephanie Bailey won, 2001- Jessica Bynert & Leigh- Anne Barrowclough, 2003- Emily Bynert and Sophie Thompson, 2004-2005- Callam Thompson & Christina Francotte, 2010- Adam Bynert & Emily Haworth, 2012- Lewis Frobisher & Georia Aspinall. This year we broke the record and came away with 3 British Championship titles- 2 Junior titles won by Harry Eyre and Amber Brunton and Scarlett Houston and Sadie Quinn winning the Juvenile. We also had the winners of boy/ girl and all girl and under 10s events. (see below)

Every year there is a Junior and Juvenile Team Match at this festival. Dancers are picked by the organisers to represent their country/ area based on results at the Sequence Festival in October. This year, the full Junior and Juvenile North of England Team was made up solely of dancers trained by us. This is the first time in the history of the festivals that this has happened. and guess what….? They both won!  Big thanks also to our team Mascots Spencer Hodgson and Ellie Mae Weller for leading the teams on!

We also had many dancers who got recalls and made it to semi- finals. Well done to all the dancers that attended the festival…
