THE 40 YEAR JOURNEY
Sandersons started back in 1976 by principal Jackie Sanderson whilst studying at college and also working part time on Nelson market to help to pay for her dance training. In the early years, Sandersons operated out of many venues in Pendle including the Conservative Club, the Railway Workers, the Co-op Brierfield, St Georges Church Hall, St John’s Ambulance and Brierfield Town Hall and then after continued success in 1996, Jackie opened the purpose built facility on Lomeshaye Industrial Estate, Nelson. Since then, Sandersons Burnley and Sandersons Blackburn have also been formed.
Jackie has been an inspirational leader to her employees, students and fellow dance professionals over the years. Her work has been recognised in the industry and she has been a winner at the prestigious Carl Alan awards on two occasions. Her wealth of experience has seen her establish herself as one of the most well respected and thought about figures in the dance world. International lecturing and adjudicating have helped Jackie to be a great ambassador for the British dance regime. She has trained, coached and mentored over 30 British championships including several members of staff and four of her own children. Her infectious personality and inspirational ambition have seen Jackie hold the presidency of the “United Kingdom Alliance” dance association for six years. She plays a key role in driving change in an evolving dance world and Jackie’s passion for her work is clearly the reasons for her huge success.
2016 marks the 40th anniversary for SDFC and we’ve had some fantastic events over the year to celebrate!-
One of the biggest highlights was our 40 year reunion day in May at Sandersons Nelson. Over 500 dancers, past and present attended to catch up with old and new friends and pay tribute to the lady who started it all, Jackie Sanderson. It was a fantastic day with lots of dancing demonstrations and everyone enjoyed looking at the 1000+ photos which were displayed around the studios showing the achievements of Sandersons over the past 40 years! Jackie was truly overwhelmed with the amount of people who attended on the day and it was really special for her to have her first dance teacher, Kelvin Halstead attend as well as her first dance partner Michael Collinge and her first member of staff Vanessa Robinson all there to support her.
Another special night throughout the 40th year celebrations was the social evening which was held on Saturday 8th June at the world famous Empress Ballroom, Blackpool Wintergardens. Almost 600 people came to be part of this evening including many of the British Champions trained by Jackie. It was a fantastic night with lots of social dancing and a tribute ballroom demonstration for Jackie by 2 of her children, Adam and Emily Bynert.
Jackie was also recognised for her success this year at Pendle Business Awards in June. Winning ‘Business Person of the year’ and being shortlisted for ‘Employer of the year’.
Comments from Staff and Customers
“Jackie has been part of my life for 30 years and has been a inspiration to me and so many others. Such a professional in every way and passionate about her work, a true inspiration..Although I’ve seen Sandersons grow over the years, the personal service still remains the same. Jackie always ensures that everyone feels welcome when they step through the door of any of our branches.” (Claire McNulty)
“I have been in partnership with Sandersons for over 4 years and with Jackie’s guidance and mentoring I have successful and thriving singing students, and a growing business.
Jackie is always there with knowledge and advice that comes from good old fashioned experience. There’s almost nothing she hasn’t come across! Being part of such a successful and respected business is a true honour”. (KiKi De Ville)
‘I was fortunate to have been taught by Jackie from the age of 5 to 16. I was then employed by her as a YTS and I still work at Sandersons to this day. Jackie’s work ethic is simple ‘You only get out, what you put in’. She has worked tirelessly for 40 years to produce an outstanding and professional business, which in turn has enabled her to produce many outstanding and professional individuals. I am proud to say that I am one of those individuals. (Kimberly Robinson).
” Sanderson Dance and Fitness has been a massive and magical part of my daughter’s life. The quality of teaching, facilities and overall opportunities for all abilities is second to non. Staff offer a professional but personal service and the founder and owner Jackie Sanderson should be commended on the service that is accessible across East Lancashire” ( Sam Houston)
“Jackie Sanderson is the most successful person I know, and not in the terms of money or power. She is a caring and compassionate employer who knows the values and strengths of all her employees and considers them her equal in ensuring the professional profile of SDFC is endorsed in all sectors of the community. The positive energy that Jackie passes onto her employees is truly infectious and authenticates her drive to provide a secure and happy future for not just the employees but everyone who walks through the doors at SDFC. Jackie sets the bar high with regards to her standards, but this is testament to her investment in her employees. The nurturing community at SDFC is supported by the highly qualified staff, which under the guidance of Jackie, train, educate and enthuse dancers from the cradle to the grave in fantastic purpose built settings. I have seen so much joy, laughter and contentment whilst at SDFC and know that Jackie would consider this to be the only true success worth working for. (Alinka Williams).
Jackie would like to thank every single person who has been part of her journey over the last 40 years. The success of Sandersons would not have been possible without the team of staff and the amazing families past and present that have been part of the school and formed the history of SDFC. We are so excited to continue this journey with you- here’s to the future years!
We hope you like our 40th year pictures below, showing our 40th celebrations and also the filming of our 40th year film which is coming soon!
